in the red

This week the Diva not only invites us to use red in our tangling, but to focus on the fun too!

For me the fun came threefold.  Firstly, I tangled for the first time in over a week.  I've had a slight hand injury which meant I couldn't hold a pen, for writing or drawing.  Somewhat torturous, and so joy abounds now I'm picking up my tools again.  Secondly I dived straight in, no planning, grabbed a tile (a scratchy one that I'd been avoiding for good reason as it happens!), a thicker than usual pen and a new Crimson pencil.

Thirdly and most preciously I carried the baton for a few paces.  One of the most wondrous things about Zentangle is that way a far-flung community of souls is pulled together.  Yesterday I noticed that Antonine Koval had posted about how (among other things) a tile of mine had inspired her.  She then shared her new tangle N'Meshed.  And so, how could I resist carrying the inspiration on further by making my tile with her new tangle.

It's a fun tangle to draw, and it seems to relish those wobbly bits that occur frequently when trying to draw Ogee grids.  Mine is a simple variation, which ended up looking a bit like reptiles eyes!

  1. I love this! I saw Antonine's post and I completely agreed. I loved the piece that inspired her and I love her new pattern. I was just sitting here with my pen poised over the start of a Travelling Tangle when I saw this post. I changed course and channeled this piece. I'll post it on Travelling Tangles later today when I finish the other one. My current blog post touches on inspiration. You should really jump into the TTP!

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment Michele. Every time you post on your blog you inspire me anew. I'll look out for your piece when it appears. And yes, I think I will join the TTP soon - I love seeing the images, I seem to always miss the ones people offer up for swap (I'm not on the computer that much!) but I might stick one up of my own - it really adds another dimension to the tangle scene and makes the world a much smaller place!

    3. I'd be thrilled, honoured, excited and a little bit terrified to receive one of your tiles to work on!

  3. I noticed the 3D effect too and am impressed to see how one "simple" pattern can have so many looks. I like your reptilian eyes, (This is not a personal remark, you understand), although I saw a butterfly.

  4. Looks like a sweet little rippling brook with stones in it. Soothing and so pretty. I want to play with Antonine's new tangle, too. Lovely!

  6. How nice to see N'Meshed with the deep red that you used. It really adds a depth to it. Do take care of your hands. We tanglers must remember to rest our "tools" often :)

  7. You may see reptile eyes, but like magratscraft, I see a butterfly, but no ordinary butterfly, it's emerging from the ceiling (something about the shading I can't put my finger on, but must try to work out!) Lovely!
